  1. OUTDOOR IS “REAL FASHION“
We are living in a hectic world, where everyone is in a great hurry. To be able to survive in this world, you have to plan moments of relaxation. A moment to catch your breath. The ideal place for this is the garden: enjoying some peace and quiet in nature, in your own environment, without any fuss. Just going outside and enjoying your own (city) garden. Whether these are a few stolen minutes or a long, lazy Sunday afternoon: it always feels great! The garden is becoming the ultimate place to relax! It is furnished as an oasis of calm: depending on the budget and the space. The rocking chair is back. The latest garden bench is an all-in bench garden: it provides space for people and green(s). The garden should not become a chore. People want the advantages of the garden, not the disadvantages. It must first and foremost be maintenance-friendly. Box trees and flower beds are cleared out and exchanged for large sections of grass. The garden is decorated with the loveliest outside pots: they make the garden dynamic, interesting and personal. The flower pots get the allure of genuine objects of art in several shapes, shades and materials. Selecting harmonious plants for this is a skill. Geraniums make room for new types. Euphorbias (milkweed) and capsella bursa-pastoris (shepherd’s purse) are replaced by meuhlenbeckias (ivy). The greatest challenge is attuning all elements in the garden in such a way that a perfectly relaxing atmosphere is created.
  2. ON-LINE IS FRESH
We’re living in a world that is changing rapidly. An evolution with the impact of a revolution? Technological developments make time fly and distances vanish. Yesterday is now. Overseas is here. A day is 24 hours; a week has seven working days. Internet is evolving rapidly, also for flowers. Online orientation, ordering and delivery. This all has to go fast and flawless. Modern and progressive florists have to keep up with this new time and anticipate it. Fresh flowers can be ordered day and night via www.g-fresh.nl. These are cut at your favourite grower in the morning and delivered at lightning speed.
  3. THE FLOWER IN THE VASE
We are living in a world that’s all about now. Yesterday is over and passé. People want to be surprised: this makes life exciting. People want the latest of the latest. People want the very nicest flowers/plants in the latest vase/pot. The fashionable world of plants and flowers no longer only takes place in ceramic pots and glass vases. The latest materials are hard or soft: rubber, cardboard, cork, felt and wool. The colours are earthy or bright. The combination flower/plant and vase/pot is a sensitive issue. It has to form a armonious whole: this is an art in itself. But now it also has to fit in with the taste, personality, home and life of the customer. This is why communication with the customer is essential. What is he looking for? What does
he want to achieve with this? How does he want to be surprised? The latest green addition makes life and the interior exciting again. This is why we have to surprise our customers season after season with new plants, flowers, bouquets, shapes, materials and colours. A true florist can profile himself with expertise and a surprising urge to innovate – plus a fine sense of exactly what a customer wants.
  4. COOKING AND FLOWERS
We are living in a world in which we want to participate. We are looking for a creative outlet: these days this is cooking. With this we want to win admiration of friends, family and acquaintances. We are addicted to cooking programs and cookbooks, stand in front of the stove during our spare time. Top chefs are the new artists: they are genuine stars!Cooking has been elevated to culinary art, with a phenomenal impact on food culture. People, smells, colours and tastes are evolving, thus also the preparation of dishes and the ingredients. Master chefs cook with a lot of respect for nature, with authentic vegetables, flowers and weeds. Long lost vegetables are cherished like true treasure. De Kas (NL), Noma (DK) and one’s own vegetable garden set the tone. Flowers are part of this. Stars cook with flowers. They add flavour and colour to a dish. With ‘Take your Pick around Town’ Elma Roelvink shows us what you can eat in parks, flowerbeds and roadsides. East Indian Cherry becomes pesto, dandelions are turned into marmalade. Weeds are, after thorough washing, a surprising ingredient. Molecular cooking techniques are no longer trendy, foodprinting is the future. Our eating culture is changing along with the new cooking: cookery and the art of dining and the art of flowers are forming a new symbiosis. Roos Van De Velde, An Van Hoey and Pieter Stockmans offer their inspiring views on this. Not just the table, also the menu, each dish includes flowers. Flowers give plates more colour; they become small paintings. Top chefs, designers and florists meet on the table. They enrich life.
