Light & Reflection

the theme DIY/t (Do it Yourself/together) will be literally spotlighted at this DeCOoh!. the exhibition ‘Light & Reflection’ highlights DIY/t light in the form of innovative objects, concepts and visions. they shed a new light on the artificial light and candlelight phenomenon. this inspiring and interactive light show was once again designed by Art Director siegrid Demyttenaere.

‘Light & Reflection’ makes you stop and think about the significance of light in all its aspects. Light is energy, light gives life, light can be a lot or a little, hard or soft, pure or complicated, natural or unnatural. ‘Light & Reflection’ focuses your attention on the instantaneous changes of light: from light sources to armatures. We’re experiencing a light revolution. Just think of the arrival of LED and OLED or the rehabilitation of ‘handmade’ and craftsmanship. Care for the environment. From energy-saving solutions to the generation of energy. Technical and social developments have an unprecedented impact on the design and perception of light. The ‘Light & Reflection’ installation spurs you on to examine, study and understand light objects. How is it made? What can you do with it? You can, for instance, rehang or replace nails! The ‘Nail Cloud’ by Ilias Ernst consists of nails hanging onto a magnet. This way you can determine and adapt the shape of the lamp. The ‘Meshmatics’ by Rick Tegelaar shines through its traditional authenticity. The handmade process was recorded on video from beginning to end and can be followed by everyone. Recycling is explained by Hans Weyers with his ceiling lamp made of PET bottles and Patrick Reuvis with his object made of old light fittings. A new light is shed on classics. One designer presents an ode to the light bulb, the other to industrial mass products, like Romy Kühne with his bulb lamp. Candlelight, and therefore also candlesticks, deserve their own place at this light show. ‘Balk’, the minimalist candlestick by Peter van de Water consists of a simple oak beam with aluminium inserts to place candles arbitrarily. Any number and as many different candles as you want. Tom Gottelier plays with fire with his ‘Candle Castle’. There is also time and space for small scientific experiments: here you can see with your own eyes that a potato can actually generate light. The absolute highlight of ‘Light & Reflection’ must be the Metronome! An impressive light object that provides a magnificent play of light and shadow. A creation of Belgian fashion designer Tim van Steenbergen in cooperation with light manufacturer Deltalight. Light & Reflections should simply not be missed: this presentation is really interactive. It gives you energy.
